A missionary and artist by the name of Johnny Vrba has created a large image of Carlo Acutis through the generosity of a patron of our parish. He will be presenting it to BCAP on Wednesday, 07/23 from 6pm-8pm at SH church. Johnny has also presented a similar piece of artwork in Assisi and Rome and will speak in Rome about his artwork in late July at the new Carlo Acutis Center. In honor of the Feast of St. James, join Camino de Chicago in a 7 church pilgrimage/walk on Saturday, July 26. The pilgrimage starts here in our Parish at St. John Berchmans, then to St. Hedwig and other historical churches in our area. Visit CAMINO DE CHICAGO to register.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve introduced our parish’s upcoming shift from the Breaking Bread missal to a custom-designed weekly worship aid—created right here in our own parish. We’ve shared how this new approach will allow us to choose music that better reflects the voice and spirit of our community, while keeping most of what you need for Mass in one easy-to-follow place.
This worship aid isn’t just a new way of presenting the music—it’s a practical and meaningful tool designed to support fuller, more active participation in the liturgy. By bringing everything together in one place and selecting music that speaks to who we are as a parish, it encourages us to sing with confidence, pray with intention, and worship in greater unity. Whether it’s a well-known favorite or a new text set to a familiar tune, our goal is to help every member of our community lift their hearts and voices in prayer. “Made for Us: A Worship Aid That Fits”
Did you know the Breaking Bread missals include about 800 songs—most of which we never use? That means we’re paying for music that doesn’t fit our parish’s style and missing out on fresh, meaningful choices. While we’ll still sing our favorite hymns regularly, it’s nice to have the flexibility to mix things up—like pairing a new hymn text with a familiar tune. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our new worship aid! Each week, we’ll handpick music from a variety of sources to create a worship experience that truly reflects the spirit and voice of our community. Even though space can be limited, the worship aid will include just about everything you need for Mass—all in one easy-to-follow place. No more flipping pages, squinting at the hymn board, or missing the song number announcement. It’s simpler, clearer, and made just for us. More to come next week—stay tuned! BREAKING NEWS!! We are honored to have the Archbishop Domenico Sorrentino of Assisi-Nocera Umbra-Gualdo Tadino, Italy coming to Blessed Carlo Acutis Parish. The Bishop of Assisi is just finishing up with a whirlwind tour in Seattle, https://nwcatholic.org/news/andrew-foster/blessed-carlo-acutis-relic-visiting-9-local-parishes-in-july and has asked if he could stop by our parish on his way back home. With a blessing from Cardinal Blase Cupich, he is going to say Mass and give a talk about Carlo Acutis. After mass there will be veneration of the pericardium (heart) relic. So please join us in welcoming the Archbishop on July 15th at 7pm at St. Hedwig Church.
Our parish is preparing to transition from the Breaking Bread Missal to a custom-designed weekly worship aid. Created right here in our parish, this new format will make it easier to follow the liturgy and participate more fully in the celebration of Mass. Many parishes have made this shift with great success, and we’re excited to take this step together.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more about what to expect—so stay tuned! Our Parish is currently in the process of switching to a new Online Giving platform called Pushpay.
